Sharing a snooze with the then-"Herd Matriarch" Stormy, a Bar-N mare (not to be confused with the current Stormy, a spoiled Arab gelding).  By 2007, almost a year after the Grand Old Lady's time had ended, Avalon was to become the incontestable boss of the herd.

Before or behind, it never matters to Avalon where she is in the lineup.  She and Hawk participated in many exciting trail rides together before Hawk was adopted.
