Sponsorship

Be a rescue horse sponsor

What it is

I'm Angel, a sweet, blind mare. I don't want to be a burden. To sponsor me, click the Donate Now button on the top of the menu to the left.

Sponsorship is a way of having your "own" horse if you can't keep one where you live. It's basically a directed monthly donation to a specific horse. This helps the horses because our general funds are almost always used up on hay, vaccines, farrier service, dewormer, emergency vet visits, and critical rehabilitation costs such as putting weight on a malnourished mare who is nursing a foal. There often isn't enough money left over to elevate the quality of care for another individual to what they would get if they were, say, the only horse. For example, a laminitic horse might benefit from a food supplement that the rescue could never afford, but if a donor was sponsoring that horse, then funds for that horse could be put toward a supplement. Or a blind horse that is
otherwise healthy could get a diagnostic trip to the vet.
Sponsors benefit by knowing their dollar is supporting a horse of their choice, whether simply by feeding it, or by making it possible for a hospice horse to live better and longer.

How it works

Sponsors send in a monthly amount, with the horse's name on the memo line of the check. That money is used for rehabilitation and upkeep of the specified horse. Sponsors may help from a distance, or schedule visits to Fresh Start and interact with “their” horse if they choose. There is currently no set sponsorship fee or duration commitment. Though making and keeping a commitment for several months or a year would help us with budgeting, sponsors may contribute any amount they wish and stop sponsoring the horse at any time. The

I'm Blizzard, and I have a sponsor who loves me!       sponsor is notified when the horse is adopted out. The sponsorship ends then, or the sponsor may choose a different horse at that time if they so desire. Monthly sponsors who make and keep a commitment for a period of time receive the FSHR newsletter, a sponsorship certificate, and periodic updates on the sponsored horse’s progress. Of course, one-time directed donations are also welcomed, as are general donations.

Which horse should you sponsor?

Fresh Start Horse Rescue provides the best care we possibly can to each and every horse. Some horses are long-term rehab projects, whether because of health issues or emotional/behavioral ones. Sometimes horses can never be adopted out because they are terminal, and are being provided  end-of-life care, which becomes expensive fast. Sponsorships help these types of horses to receive more specialized care than they might otherwise get, which could progress a rehabilitation along faster, or enhance the horse's quality of life.

Other horses have special needs that, if addressed by a sponsorship or directed donation, could make all the difference. One person came and saw one of our horses, which had recently been surrendered to us with a bad case of laminitis. Instead of a financial sponsorship for the horse, she donated the feed supplement for its hooves, and combined with a proper diet and corrective trimming, the horse improved dramatically.

All of the Fresh Start Horse Rescue horses would benefit by sponsorships and directed donations while they complete rehabilitation or wait for their forever homes. Fresh Start invites you to look over the website and sponsor whichever horse tugs at your heartstrings!
